Handmade African Jewellery

A curated edit of handmade African jewellery, made by artisans across the continent and shipped from South Africa. Heritage techniques, contemporary forms.

African jewellery is one of the oldest design languages in the world. Long before brand logos and seasonal collections, beadwork, brass and shell were used to mark identity, status, marriage, mourning and celebration. The pieces in our handmade jewellery edit carry that history forward — without ever feeling like museum objects. They are made to be worn.

We work with artisans whose techniques are rooted in tradition: Tikar brass bangles from Cameroon, intricate Zulu and Xhosa beadwork from southern Africa, cowrie shell collars from coastal communities, and contemporary statement pieces designed in our Cape Town studio. Each piece on this page has been chosen for the quality of its making, the integrity of its materials, and the way it sits on the body.

If you're shopping for handmade jewellery in South Africa, we recommend starting with our most-loved categories: necklaces for stacking and layering, bracelets and bangles for everyday wear, and earrings for a quieter statement. Many pieces are made in small batches, so what you see is often all there is.

Materials matter here. We list every material — brass, glass beads, leather, cowrie shell, recycled bone — on the product page, along with care notes so your jewellery lasts. Brass develops a beautiful patina over time; beadwork should be kept dry; leather softens with wear. None of these pieces are mass-produced, and that is what makes them worth living with.
